Top performanc­e from Rhys not enough to secure victory

THE surprise result in the latest round of Division 1 Table Tennis matches saw second placed Cat A taken to a draw by their own Cat D team.

Despite a fine performanc­e from Rhys Emery who won all of his games a five all draw was all Cat A could manage.

Spare a thought for Pete Jamieson (Cat A) all his matches went to five sets with him losing all three, firstly losing 9-11 to Rod Pickering and then going down 8-11 to Allan Crowson before finally succumbing to Steve Bessant 9-11.

All that effort and no reward, it’s tough at the top.

Cat C overcame Cat d by nine sets to one with Andy Spring (Cat C) winning all his games.

G Ward B pulled off a good result against G Ward A gaining an excellent draw.

Clive Stretton (GWB) claiming all of his games, GWB went five sets to three up but then Derek Thomson (GWA) overcame Richard Chesters (GWB) and with Leigh Morris and Mark Perkins (both GWA) claiming the doubles the final result was a five all draw.

Queen’s Mira could not hold the Goons charge for the title going down by nine sets to one.

Both Jason Woodfield and Harry White (Goons) winning all their matches.

Another close game between Cat B and Cat C with the B team running out winners by six sets to four.

Spring (Cat C) taking a maximum.

Goons struggled in their match against Barlestone A and could only manage six sets to four victory.

Man of the match was in form Adam Pettitt (Bar A).

In their next match Barlestone A were defeated by six sets to four by G Ward A.

Mark Perkins (GWA) overcoming the inform Adam Pettitt (Bar A) to ensure victory.

Cat A defeated Queen’s Mira by nine sets to one.

In their next match Queen’s Mira beat G Ward E by eight sets to two.

Barlestone B drew with Cat D five sets all. Jon Jacom claiming three wins for Bar- lestone B.

Ian Heavey winning three for Barlestone.

G Ward A beat Barlestone B by eight sets to two. Perkins again winning his three.

G Ward B overcame Cat B by six sets to four. Stretton again claiming three victories.

The league table Goons in front with points from 16 matches.

Second are Cat A with 127 points also from 16 matches and in third place are G Ward A on 120 points from 17 games. his sees 135
