Bosworth miss out on Luton double

-

ALTHOUGH Market Bosworth lost this return fixture against Luton, the points margin was the same as earlier in the season, nineteen points. writes Harry Whitehead

Bosworth have maintained their positions in the league since that game at the start of the season but Luton have started to slip.

It was with this in mind that an interesting game was anticipated.

Bosworth started with an attacking spirit and pinned Luton down in their own half for the first eight minutes but could not get any points on the board.

As soon as Luton got into the Bosworth half they won a line-out ten metres from the line and ran in a try to open the scoring but the conversion was missed.

Luton continued to put the pressure on Bos- worth but failed to breach the strong defence for a long period until a Luton wing forward found a gap and ran in under the posts for their second try and easy conversion.

It was then Bosworth’s turn to put the pressure on Luton forcing them to make mistakes and then to concede ten metres for backchat resulting in Bosworth’s first points of the game from the boot of Joe Randon.

More mistakes were to come from Luton, the most spectacular when their fast left winger dodged most of the defence, kicked the ball over the full back’s head but then knocked the ball forward as he caught his own kick in the goal area.

Play continued from end to end for the rest of the half but neither side were able to increase the score.

The second half continued in the same fashion with the two sides appearing to be evenly matched and Aaron Willis outstanding for Bosworth.

It was Luton who scored first after the break by winning a line out five metres from the line, forming a rolling maul and going over for their third try which was converted.

A successful penalty kick from Rich Harris doubled Bosworth’s score and following several excellent moves Jack McWhirter dived over to increase the score again and with Rich Harris’s conversion there was only six points between the teams.

Unfortunately for Bosworth the Luton scrum half, later to be awarded man of the match, found yet another gap in the Bosworth defence and unselfishly passed the ball out for a fellow player to score their fourth try and conversion for the bonus point.

Two successful penalty kicks in quick succession followed and the game ended with Luton being disallowed a fifth try.

The final score Market Bosworth 13 – Luton 32.
