Golden award for punctual trains

EAST Midlands Trains won a Golden Whistle award for the punctualit­y of its long distance trains for the third year running.

The train operator, which is part of the Stagecoach Group, also bagged the top award for best punctualit­y for its regional services for the first time.

The service ran 92.3 per cent of its 2017 long distance service to London within ten minutes of the scheduled times while 62.6 per cent of services ran exactly on time, some of the best ever performanc­e.

An impressive 93.3 per cent of its regional service ran within ten minutes of scheduled times for same period, with 78.8 per cent exactly on time.

Regional routes include services between Derby to Matlock, Nottingham to Skegness as well as Derby to Crewe station.

East Midlands Trains has also maintained the record of best performing long distance train operator in the country for over eight years.

Ian Smith, Operations Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “It’s a real honour to have won the Golden Whistle for best long distance train operator for the third year running.

“We’re also pleased to have been recognised for the improvemen­ts on our regional services for the first time at these awards.

The Golden Whistle Awards are now in their ninth year and are hosted by Modern Railways and the Institute of Railway Operators.
