BBC’s finest to perform

BBC SONGS OF PRAISE conductor Paul Leddington Wright will be accompanyi­ng soprano Louise Clarke at a lunchtime recital at St Mary’s Church in Hinckley on Wednesday March 7 at 1pm.

Mr Leddington Wright, who is associate director of music at Coventry Cathedral, has been principal conductor for the popular TV programme for more than 30 years.

Ms Clarke, a member of Coventry Cathedral Chorus, which Mr Leddington Wright also conducts, is a graduate of London’s Royal College of Music who has performed across the UK and abroad in opera and musical theatre as well as appearing on BBC radio, TV and commercial CD recordings.

Her programme will include How Beautiful are the Feet from Handel’s Messiah, Summertime from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again from Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera.

And she will be joined by vocal student Eleanor Hodgson for duets including Pie Jesu from Lloyd Webber’s Requiem, The Angel of Music from Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera and Marry the Man Today from Loesser’s Guys and Dolls.

The recital will run for less than an hour and people are invited to take along a packed lunch to eat beforehand or afterwards and to make use of the church coffee bar for hot drinks.

Admission on the door will be £4 for adults and £1 for children and students.

The event is being hosted by Mary’s Arts (Smarts).
