IF you’ve ever been to Bradgate Park, there’s a chance you might have broken a by-law you didn’t necessarily know existed.

There are many rules you have to follow when in the picturesque park, which come under by-laws for the Bradgate Park Trust estate.

The full list of by-laws are on display at every entrance of the park, but it’s quite unlikely that you’ve stopped to read all 31 of them.

So, here’s some of the rules you might not have known about. 1) No tree climbing “No unauthorised person shall climb any tree, wall or building or climb over any fence, hedge, wall or gate in the park.”

2) Don’t remove any lead, flower, berry, plant etc

“No unauthorised person shall dig, cut or take turf, sods, gravel, sand, clay, rock or other substance on or from the Park or dig up or remove, cut, fell, pluck, or wilfully injure any gorse, heather, timber or other tree, shrub, brushwood, plant, bulb, fungus, moss, fern, or other vegetation growing thereon or remove any bud, berry, flower, leaf or seed thereof.” 3) No fires “No unauthorised person shall light any fire, or place or throw or let fall any lighted match, or any other lighted substance or thing, in the Park.” 4) No guns “No unauthorised person shall carry, fire or discharge any firearm, explosive or firework in the Park or throw or discharge any missile to the danger of any person, animal or bird in the Park.” 5) No egg shell or orange peel “No unauthorised person shall deposit on the Park, or in any pond or stream thereon, any wood, stone, sand, materials for the repair of roads, or any dung, rubbish or other offensive matter, or leave or scatter upon the Park any bottle, broken glass, egg shell, orange peel, paper or any other litter.” 6) Don’t feed the deer “No unauthorised person shall in the Park feed any deer nor induce or attempt to induce any deer to consume any article.” 7) No bathing “No person shall bathe in any lake, pond or stream upon the Park, or use the Park for bathing in any lake, pond or stream adjacent thereto.” 8) No annoying games “No person shall play or take part in any game in any car park on the Park; or play or take part in any game on the Park in such place or in such fashion as to cause annoyance to others.”

9) Leave your sheep at home

“No unauthorised person shall tum out or permit to remain on the Park any cattle, sheep or other animal.”

Anyone who breaks any of the by-laws could have to pay a fine of up to £200.

These by-laws were made by the trust’s managing committee on November 19, 1966 and were confirmed by the Justices of Leicestershire in December 1966.

If you’d like to read the full list of by-laws look for them at the entrance to the park next time you take a trip there.
