Hope takes a runaway win in midweek open match

GUY Hope scored a runaway win in Lychgate Fisheries midweek Open match. Drawn on peg 46 Guy fished “bomb & corn” to catch 50lb 8ozs of carp for a convincing victory. Glyn Davis came second from peg 52, again using sweetcorn as bait, but float fished, to finish with 12lb 110zs. Terry Brindley pole fished maggot to catch 10lb 14ozs of mainly small fish for third place.

In form Kev Milne took the honours in Saturday’s Higham Lane Fishery Open match. Drawn on peg 8, Kevin legered bread to catch 38lb 11ozs of carp. Runner up Terry “I’m never fishing here again” Sanderson, who finished just one small carp away, with a 37lb 9oz catch from peg 13. Pete Whitby came third with 28lb 9ozs.

Lutterworth and District travelled to Phase One at Makins Fishery for their latest contest. Pegged on Lakes 3 and 4 it was Lake 3 that produced the top three catches. Bob Hughes took the honours with a 40lb 8oz catch. Marie Hughes came second with 34lb 8ozs while Luke Bale finished third with 14lb 8ozs.

Shackerstone’ final Open match of the season was fished along the Monthills section. Kev Cooper landed four small bream to win with 1lb 8ozs. Hubert Noar finished second with 1lb 6ozs. John Gamble made an all roach catch weighing 5ozs to take third place.

Thursday’s Higham Lane Open was won by John Varley from peg 9. Switching between sweetcorn and bread baits John weighed 28lb 11ozs to finish in front of Kev Milne who wasn’t far behind with a 26lb catch. Clive Oliver came third with 18lb 7ozs.

Despite the sun being out it was still bitterly cold for Wednesday’s Maynes Lake’s Open. Top catch on the day was made by Alan Bolton who weighed 15lb 7ozs from peg 37 on Pool One. Top catch from Pool Two was made by Steve Spencer with 9lb 9ozs from peg 3.

Higham Lane have an Open match every Thursday and Saturday. Draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries Have Open matches planned for Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesday’s. Draw 9.15am.

Shackerstone have their Members J.T.Thompson Cup match this Sunday. Draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Brookfield have an Open match this Sunday, draw 9am.

Maynes Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, Draw 10am.
