Police looking for owner of wad of cash handed in

-

A MYSTERIOUS wad of banknotes found in Hinckley will be reunited with its owner, but only if they can describe a distinctive note found with the cash.

The money was found in a plastic bag and police believe it was lost by a taxi or delivery driver.

Inside a distinctive handwritten note was discovered with the wad which police believe will be key to identifying the correct owner.

Posting an appeal to the Hinckley Police Facebook page, which has been shared nearly 600 times at the time of writing, officers said: “A quantity of cash has been found in Hinckley. We believe it may belong to a delivery/taxi driver.

“There is a very specific and distinctive hand written note attached to the money. If the owner is able to attend Hinckley police station and describe the note the money will be reunited.”

One person said it must have been a “very nice honest person who handed it in” while another said “they need a small reward”.

Hinckley Police responded and said: “It was found by police, no need for a reward.”

Others posted more sarcastic responses.

Luke Britton said: “Can you let me know what the note says so I can make sure it’s mine before I come collect it?”

In another attempt at bagging the cash, Richard Guest said: “The note says, ‘Richard’s money, hands off.’”

Others tagged friends in the post, but nobody appeared to stake a serious claim for the money.
