Festive raffle raises a cheer for good cause

-

PATIENTS at Burbage Surgery have presented £500 to a charity in the village which helps children.

The money was handed to Friends of Sketchley Hill Menphys by Patient Group chairman John Moore at the surgery.

It was part of the £870 profit made by the group from its Christmas raffle. The original plan had been to share the money equally between the group and the Menphys nursery at Sketchley Hill. But the group increased the donation when ticket sellers told them of the tremendous support from people when they learned Menphys would also benefit.

Patient group vice-chairman Mike Hudson sold tickets on his own worth nearly £400.

He said: “I went door to door in Wolvey and was impressed by the tremendous response. Having Menphys as a beneficiary certainly helped.”

John Moore said: “As well as being a voice for patients and raising money for items which benefit them, we like to be active in the community. We are delighted to make the donation to Menphys to support the fantastic work it does.”

The cheque was received on behalf of Menphys by secretary Beverley Brown who thanked the group for their generous donation.

The nursery, in the grounds of Sketchley Hill School, caters for children aged two to five who have special educational needs.

The £370 remainder of the raffle profit has gone into Patient Group funds to be spent on items to benefit patients when the planned surgery improvements have been completed.
