Quartet includes three of a kind

MUSICAL siblings will make up three-quarters of a string quartet due to take centre stage at Hinckley Music Club’s next concert on Saturday.

Violinists Caroline Pether and Ed Pether, and cellist Jonathan Pether, play alongside Alex Mitchell on viola as the Zelkova String Quartet which will be performing in Holy Trinity Church in the town from 7.30pm.

Winners of St Martin’s Chamber Music Competitio­n 2017, the Manchester-based quartet is now backed by Making Music, an organisati­on that promotes up-and-coming musical talent.

Its programme for the night will incude pieces by Haydn, Debussy and Beethoven.

The quartet has featured several times on BBC Radio and performed at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe.

It was awarded the Elias Fawcett Trust Prize for Outstandin­g Chamber Ensemble at the 2014 Royal Overseas League Competitio­n was selected to participat­e in the St Johns Smith Square Young Artists Programme 2014/15.

More recently, it was selected for the ChamberStu­dio Study Programme 2016/17 which enabled them to work with the highly esteemed chamber musician Simon Rowland-Jones.

The Hinckley Music Club concert is open to all and costs £12 for adults and £5 for students on the door, with no charge for accompanni­ed children.
