Hinckley crush bottom of the league Spa in table tennis

HINCKLEY A currently sit proudly at the top of Division 2 of the Midland Vetts League, in their latest fixture against bottom club Leamington Spa they cruised to a 10 sets to nil victory.

Andy Spring being man of the match easily winning his three sets.

Both Pete Jamieson and Jason Woodfield also winning their three.

Hinckley are top with 35 points, eight points clear of second placed Nottingham C who have a game in hand.

Their other match is against middle of the table Telford which weather permitting should take place on 25th March.

Hinckley B playing in Division Three put up a fine performanc­e to defeat Derby B by eight sets to two with Jon Jacom starring for the Town with three fine wins.

He was well backed up by Russ Petitt and Charlie Bateman both winning two sets apiece.

In their next match against local rivals Nuneaton B things did not go to plan and they went down to a nine sets to one defeat as they could only field two players on the day. The B team are currently sitting bottom of the table with bottom of the table on 18 points with just one match remaining against Cheltenham A.

The semi-finals of both the Holt Trophy and the Dry Logic Cup were played recently, in the Holt Cup; Division 1 league leaders overcame a spirited Cat A to win the game by five sets to nil, Harry White (Goons) in good form.

In the other semi G Ward A beat Cat D by six sets to nil with Jason Essex (G Ward A) in fine form.

In the Dry Logic Cup Cat H defeated the young G Ward F team by nine sets to nil, but it was not as easy as the score might suggest with no fewer than six of the nine sets going to four or five games.

Garry Rhodes starring for Cat H but he was given quite a scare by Connor Harris (G WF) who took him all the way before finally losing 7-11 in the fifth.
