Hicks takes the win at final Shackerstone match of season

-

SHACKERSTONE’S final match of the season was fished along the canal from Carlton towards Hags Lane.

There was a good turn out, but the pegs at both ends produced the top two catches.

Phil Hicks taking the honours with a 2lb 10oz catch of small bream and roach while at the other end Phil Baker made a similar catch to take second place with 2lb.

Ian Plant came third with a small fish catch weighing 1lb 13ozs while a single 1lb 11oz perch was enough to put Andy Smith in fourth place.

Section winners were Andy Morton with 12ozs, Kevin Cooper 1lb 6ozs and Adie Holland 1lb 2ozs.

Shackerstone’s length of the canal will now observe the Close Season and no fishing will be allowed until June 16.

Andy Findley led the way in Saturday’s Higham Lane Fishery Open contest.

Despite a badly coloured lake, Andy used bomb and bread tactics to make a 56lb 11oz catch of carp from peg seven.

Runner Up Dave Hurlston finished one decent fish behind the winner, weighing 50lb 9oz from peg 25. Pete Whitby came third with 38lb 11ozs.

Brookfield’s Open match at Stoke Golding was another hard match with Stu Campton taking the honours with just 7lb from peg five.

Ray Lewis came second with a 2lb 8oz catch while Fred Walker finished third with 1lb 8ozs.

In-form Dave Hurlston took the honours in Higham Lane’s Thursday Open contest. Drawn on peg seven, Dave needed just 22lb 12ozs of small carp to win.
