Snow hits area and there could be more for Easter...

-

HINCKLEY was covered in a blanket of snow over the weekend as a mini ‘Beast From the East’ hit our town.

Cars got stuck in the snow between Coalville and Copt Oak on Saturday night and early Sunday morning, having to be rescued by the fire service.

East Midlands Airport also had to close its runway temporarily to clear the snow, delaying some flights.

Many sporting fixtures were hit as games were called off although Leicester City’s FA Cup tie with Chelsea went ahead after the snow was cleared from the ground.

It has been a cold start to the week as the snow tries to melt and it will continue to get warmer by the weekend.

However, there are suggestions the ‘beast from the east’ part three might be on its way ready to make it a white Easter.

Some forecasts predict a blast of bitter air from the Arctic sweeping through Britain during the run-up to the holiday as high pressure builds north of the country.

This could allow icy, cold winds to plunge across the UK with the chance of snow fall for the third time - after the second bout of snow fall dubbed the “mini Beast From the East” came this weekend.

BBC weather presenter and meteorologist Simon King joked about the further bout of snow fall on social media.

Posting on Twitter he said: “Who likes trilogies? When you get a sudden stratospheric warming event like we saw in Jan, it often means you can get more than one/two/three bouts of colder weather. #BeastFromTheEast to be continued...?”
