Youngsters design posters in praise of junk
YOUNG users of Sapcote Community Library came up with some eye-catching designs in a poster competition on the theme of recycling.
It followed half-term activities at the community library looking at how recycling and reusing materials can help the environment and may reduce the rate of climate change.
One of the activities challenged youngsters to make something new out of something old.
Library chairman Lorraine Jackson, who praised all the poster competition entrants, said: “They all really thought through the message that had to be conveyed, and then turned it into some very eye-catching designs
“Not only does this kind of event stimulate children to think about problems facing us all, but it also shows them how much fun using the library can be.
“We are delighted. Education, information and inspiration are exactly what libraries should be providing for children.”
In choosing the winners, judges considered the quality and creativity of the posters, the age of the entrant, how well the poster communicated its message and the overall visual impact of the design.
Book token prizes were given to Jacob Matthews, Alexander Neilson and Alfie Stallard, who came first, second and third respectively, and bookmarks were given to every entrant.
Judges said Jacob’s “superb” slogan Super Junk proved the winning touch.
