Burglary at bus depot led to service delays

-

EARLY bird commuters hoping to catch the worm were struggling to catch the bus after a burglary at a depot in Barwell.

Arriva was forced to delay some of its services after a break in at its depot on Goose Lane in the early hours of March 15.

A Hinckley resident who catches the 8 to and from Magna Park each day said: “I was very annoyed with the service that day.

“My bus was delayed by 15 minutes in the morning and just didn’t turn up at all in the afternoon.

“A number of us had to wait at Magna Park in the cold for over an hour for the next bus.

“There was no communication from customer service.

“It’s not on at all. Just typical of the shoddy service we’ve come to expect from Hinckley Bus and Arriva.”

Alistair Timmis, general manager for Arriva Leicester, said: “We can confirm that there was an incident with intruders at our Hinckley bus depot on Goose Lane in the early hours of Thursday, 15th March.

“We incurred slight delays to our early services while we worked to assess the situation alongside the local police force.

“We will continue to co-operate with officers as they undertake their investigations into the matter.”

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “We are investigating a burglary that happened at a premises in Goose Lane in the early hours of March 15.

“Cash was stolen from the office. The investigation is open and enquiries are ongoing.”
