Nutts Lane needs sorting out

-

I have just left a meeting of the residents of Nutts Lane concerned about the safety of themselves and their loved ones. Although I do not live in Nutts Lane, I have reason to visit there as my sister in law lives at the Coventry Road end of the lane.

The residents are concerned about the following issues of road traffic on the lane:

1. Traffic speeding on the lane

2. Traffic ignoring the lights on the canal bridge.

3. Cars parking and driving on pathways and verges on the lane.

4. Lorries too large for the size of the lane and bullying there way through other traffic.

The above concerns are symptomatic of the way road traffic generally operates in Hinckley. There is a total disregard of adherence to road traffic signals and signage, traffic lights are treated as they are for guidance only. I have seen traffic signs ignored especially the ‘no right turns’ from Lower Bond Street into King Street and King Street onto Stockwell Head.

Speeding within the town is also a problem especially where two lanes of traffic reduces to one lane, it always seems a race to be first away, then when you get to the lane reduction area the bullying starts.

It would appear that no one will show any interest until a serious/ fatal accident occurs.

I along with the rest of the residents of Hinckley have just received there Council Tax Demands which show a large increase to the police, what do we get for our money. There is no police presence in the town which is evident by an increase in drink driving, use of mobile phones at the wheel and blatant disregard in general to road traffic laws.

Eventually someone will be injured or heaven forbid killed on Nutts Lane or in Hinckley Town centre, it is only a matter of time.
