Nutts Lane and bridge are now dangerous

-

A meeting was held at the Wharf to discuss the ongoing transport problems associated with, and concerning, Nutts Lane.

The meeting was well attended by a host of people from the surrounding area, plus residents of the lane and Councillor David Bill.

The police declined the invitation to attend

We have been residents in Nutts Lane for over 40 years.

As you can appreciate, we have been witness to many changes in that time. But the canal bridge, apart from it being re-enforced a few years back, is still the same as when the horse and cart was the only transport it had to contend with.

With the population explosion and the need for more houses, the ever increasing problem with the horrendous traffic has reached epic proportions and needs to be resolved.

The narrow pathway that was to accommodate the increased pedestrian use has, in our opinion, made the hump back bridge more dangerous than it was before.

It needs a separate walkway that is wide enough to take double pushchairs and mobility scooters.

The structure will have to span the canal itself so that they are well out of the way from the giant juggernauts and speeding cars that misuse, on a daily basis, this narrow road that was once a picturesque country lane.
