Cathy launches Loquacious Baker services from home
A CHEF from Hinckley has launched a home-based bakery providing sweet and savoury cakes and treats from around the world.
Cathy Homer has set up The Loquacious Baker to offer a wide range of edibles from sausage rolls and mini loaves to French patisserie and bespoke dessert tables.
Ms Homer has more than 15 years experience in the food trade, running restaurants and bakeries including the Buttercream Tearoom in Regent Court, which she sold last year.
She said: “As a qualified pastry chef, I wanted to work doing what I love while being able to look after my family.
“I decided to continue baking but on a smaller scale, allowing me to provide high quality products without the costly overheads, therefore passing on the savings to the customer.
“My homemade sausage rolls are a particular favourite among my male customers whereas the ladies are a big fan of my cupcakes and mini loaves.”
The domestic baker is supplying French patisseries for the recently opened Petit Chouette Cafe on Regent Street, with the cafe already bringing in two orders a week.
Ms Homer said: “I love to support local independent businesses and plan on working alongside a few local cafes and restaurants providing them with French patisserie, Italian desserts and good old-fashioned English puddings.
“My plan is to build up a reputation locally, not only for excellent food but also for great customer service, allowing me to form relationships with local businesses as well as daily consumers.”
Ms Homer regularly travels to France and Belgium to visit relatives there and buy ingredients.
The business is based online and customers can get in touch via The Loquacious Baker website and Facebook and Instagram pages.
Part of the business is Claude’s Little Doggie Bag, a range of handmade canine treats including bones and truffles all made with natural ingredients, inspired by the Homer’s family french bulldog.
