Bosworth fall short in good spirited match

-

UNBELIEVABLE results have been cropping up in the last few weeks in Midlands Two East South.

Two weeks ago Market Bosworth were well beaten by Market Harborough who are in the top three in the league.

The following week Market Bosworth beat Stamford who are in the bottom three.

This week Stamford beat Market Harborough.

Who can predict what results the final three games will produce but whatever they are Market Bosworth are safe to remain at this level.

This week’s game saw them face top of the league Oadby Wyggestonians at Cadeby Lane.

Oadby opened the scoring within the first couple of minutes with an easy penalty kick in front of the posts, quickly followed by another one slotted over by their scrum half who was on top form.

Bosworth started to attack the Oadby line and got to within ten metres only to loose the line out and see the full back clear the ball back to the half way.

Bosworth pinned the visitors down in their half for the next ten minutes or so but without being able to cross the line.

It was then Oadby’s turn to camp on the Bosworth line for ten minutes winning scrum after scrum and eventually crossing the line for their first try and conversion.

Again play reverted to the Oadby half with Bosworth playing entertaining stuff.

Anticipating a try opportunity prop Ben Thompson moved to the wing and receiving the ball dived over for a well worked try, unfortunately too far out for the conversion to be successful and unluckily for Bosworth number eight Ricky Wickwar took a knock at the same time and was sidelined for the rest of the game.

With the clock ticking down to half time Oadby’s backs started to throw the ball about in open play and one of their centres avoided the Bosworth defence to run in their second try and conversion.

From the kick off Oadby powered over the line as an eight for their third try and conversion.

Not to be outdone, Bosworth replied with an equally good attack with Aaron Willis, now playing at eight going over under the posts for Rich Harris to convert.

Straight from the restart Oadby’s centre ran in a solo try for the bonus point.

The conversion was again successful.

The game was played throughout in good spirits even though Oadby had the upper hand particularly in the line outs where the Oadby forwards towered over the Bosworth players.

One last effort from Oadby saw their centre cross the line for his hat-trick and his team’s fifth try and conversion.

Final score Market Bosworth 12 Oadby Wyggestonians 41.
