Table Tennis: George Ward D win title as undefeated run continues

GEORGE Ward D maintained their unbeaten run towards the league title with a useful win over their own F team by eight sets to two.

In their next match with another fine win over Cat E, both Ollie Wynne and Callum Dale recording maximums to secure the result.

In their final match away to Desfords Cat F they ran out winners by seven sets to three.

G Ward rested Roger Hill preferring to use three of their younger players.

Both Ollie Wynne and Callum Dale recorded three wins apiece for G Ward.

Callum indeed put up one of the performanc­es of the season when he took on the undefeated Eddie Kwok (Cat F) and defeated him in three straight games winning 11-8, 11-3 and 11-3. Matt Wynne (GWD) worked hard losing a five game set 6-11 to Phil Wood but then defeating Sue Wright in another five setter 11-9 in the fifth.

This victory means G Ward D have gone through 20 matches’ unbeaten just one draw against Queen’s Barwell.

Queen’s Barwell with a player missing went down to a seven sets to three loss to Cat H.

Steve Lawton had a good win over the inform Steve Crutchley (Cat H) an Chris Taylor overcoming Ian Knight (Cat H).

Cat F put Market Bosworth 2 away by 10 sets to nil.

Market Bosworth 1 had a good win over Cat E, with John Veasey collecting three good wins and with Dave Knappett taking two wins victory was assured.

G Ward C defeated Cat C by seven sets to three to keep up the pressure for second spot in the league.

In their next match a draw against Cat H in a closely contested match with no fewer than seven sets going to either four or five games.

Queen’s Barwell bounced back beating Cat G by seven sets to three.

These results confirm George Ward D claiming the title with 157 points from their 20 games but behind them second spot are still open with three teams chasing the prize.

Currently G Ward C are second with 112 points with two to play,

Cat H on 109 pts and Hit ‘n’ Hope with 105 points both with two games to play.
