WITH the weather warming up there were plenty of small fish to be caught in Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match.

Three carp caught from the margins in the last hour helped swell Terry Brindley’s catch to a match winning 24lb 2ozs.

John Bates had been leading for most of the match but at the end had to settle for second place with a 16lb 10oz catch of mainly small fish. Mick Wilson finished third with a 11lb 4oz catch.

Higham Lane’s Saturday Open match produced the best winning weight for a while as Dave Ringham took the honours with a 74lb 11oz catch from peg three.

Dave Kent finished second from peg 25 with a 36lb 7oz catch while Clive Oliver was third weighing 18lb 11ozs.

There was a good turn out for Lutterwort­h’s latest match at Holmes Farm where the top five all weighed over 30lbs in the improving conditions. Leading the way was Ian Stripp with a 47lb 5oz catch of carp.

Colin Clarke came second with 38lb 3ozs, Gurka Mick was third with 36lb 8ozs, lady angler Marie Hughes was fourth with 32lb 2ozs.

Mick Bassett completed the prize list with a 30lb 9oz catch.

Stu Campton landed eight small carp from peg six to win Brookfield Angling Clubs Open match at Stoke Golding.

Runner Up Ray Lewis finished second from peg one with 5lb 4ozs. Fred Walker needed just 3lb 8ozs to finish third.

Thursday’s Open match at Higham Lane was won by Terry Sanderson who caught 32lb 11ozs of carp from peg 10.

Mick Linnett came second with 24lb 6ozs while Dave Hurlston weighed 21lb 6oz to finish third.

Higham Lane Fishery have Open matches every Thursday and Saturday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an Open match every Saturday and Wednesday, draw 9am. The Sunday Open’s have a new draw time of 11am, fishing 12 noon until 5pm.

Brookfield Angling Club have an Open match this Sunday at Stoke Golding, draw 9am.

Maynes Lakes have Open matches every Wednesday, draw 10am.
