School bids for new classrooms

-

two mobile classrooms currently on site.

“This gave us the capacity for the first year group expansion.

“Following another unsuccessful £1.8m CIF bid in the 2015/16 academic year - this was for a 10 classroom block and internal improvements - we utilised every available internal space, hired four mobile classrooms and built an eight classroom block under a lease agreement.

“We are now in receipt of Section 106 funding which, topped up from our own income, will enable us to replace the four mobile classrooms currently on hire, with a permanent four classroom block.

“There is a clear need for these four classrooms to become permanent, high quality teaching spaces as we currently have a number of teaching periods across a fortnight where we are using every classroom space in the school.”

A design statement accompanying the application said: “The project will significantly improve the teaching environment...will improve existing teaching facilities together with providing additional classrooms to meet Government and educational requirements.

“The provision is commensurate with DFES school requirements. The proposed site area already houses a mobile class- room of similar dimensions and scale however the existing unit is two storey.

“The proposed modular would be concealed behind existing tall trees therefore not visible from the main road, as well as being shielded by the existing residential properties.”

The application will be decided at a later date by council officers under delegated powers or by members of the planning committee.
