Nominate community heroes for awards

THE hunt is on to find Hinckley and Bosworth residents who make a difference to the lives of others through volunteeri­ng.

Nomination­s are being invited for a person or group that deserves recognitio­n for the help they give to others for the Making a Difference community awards sponsored by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council. Individual categories include:

Helping hands (someone who provides practical and/or emotional support) Good neighbour Group contributo­r – someone who has played a key role in establishi­ng or sustaining a community group Lifetime achievemen­t Young volunteer of the year (16-25 year old)

Personal developmen­t award (An individual who has improved their personal skills and life prospects through volunteeri­ng)

Community groups can also be nominated in the categories:

Neighbourh­ood improvemen­t group (a group of residents who have improved a neighbourh­ood)

Helping hands (a group who provide emotional/practical support to others)

Best new project (an initiative by volunteers that begun after Jan 2016)

Longstandi­ng achievemen­t (a group who has improved the quality of life for residents over many years)

Leader of the borough coun- cil, Cllr Mike Hall, said: “These awards are a great way to recognise the individual­s and groups who voluntaril­y help to support their communitie­s.

“Last year we celebrated the work of some of the most selfless people in our borough, who work to improve themselves, the people around them and the places they live.

“If you know somebody who deserves a public thank-you, then nominate them for this year’s ‘Making a Difference Awards’ and let them know how much you appreciate the work that they do”.

Nomination­s must be received by Tuesday May 15 2018.

A judging panel will consider all of the nomination­s and the awards will be presented at the voluntary and community sector celebratio­n event on Wednesday June 6.

Each winner will receive a trophy and all nominees will receive a medal or certificat­e.
