Castle launches night-time dragon slayer attraction

-

WARWICK Castle is to host a major new night-time swords and dragons attraction packed with explosive action and special effects.

Dragon Slayer will open at the historic castle this summer and promises a story of “dark forces, dragons, fearful foes, heroic battles and a star-crossed love story.

The show - the first night attraction created specially for the castle - will also include knights jousting with fiery lances.

It will boast real fire, pyrotechnics and giant projections onto the castle walls.

The plot follows 10th century warrior Guy of Warwick as he battles beasts to win the heart of Princess Felipe, the Earl of Warwick’s daughter.

“The story of Guy and Felice rivals that of Romeo and Juliet,” says Melissa Paniccia, Head of History at Warwick Castle. “Action and adventure pave the way to true love.

“Guy of Warwick’s presence permeates the local area through statues as well as locations such as Guy’s Cliffe site, and his achievements once placed him alongside similar heroic figures such as King Arthur.

“Yet our initial research showed he is a forgotten legend, with public knowledge of him and his journey day dissipating after the 19th century.”

Dragon Slayer premieres on Friday, August 3, with further performances on August 4, 10, 11, 24 and 27. Tickets range from £15 to VIP Gold packages for £75 including a three-course character banquet, preferential seating and personal guide. Tickets are now on sale . The castle is also hosting Luna Cinema again this year. The outdoor film event in September will screen Star Wars, Pretty Woman and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
