Walk of Witness helps to mark Easter

-

A LARGE crowd of people from the churches in Hinckley, Burbage and some of the surrounding villages gathered together to mark Good Friday in worship.

As usual the Walk of Witness began at St Peter’s Church and then made its way towards the Market Place.

The crowd paused for prayers led by Rev Anthony Thacker and Fr Frank Daly at the top of Castle Street and by Bell Entry where the crowd sang ‘God Forgave my Sin’ and ‘From Heaven You Came’ respectively.

Once in the Market Place the crowd spread out to fill the area.

The singing in the Market Place of ‘When I Survey the Wondrous Cross’ was boosted by the bright sounds of the Salvation Army Band.

The Churches Together Chair, John Moore, led the outdoor service in which Major Carol Evans of the Salvation Army spoke of God’s love for all people in Hinckley and throughout the world, and reminding us of the hope that we all have in Jesus Christ, and are all invited to share in.

Churches Together expressed their thanks to the Hinckley Market stall traders and manager, the Events Team at the borough council, to Hinckley BID, and to all volunteers from the churches, as well as to any visitors for their co-operation and for helping to mark this important day.

After the service in the Market Place, worship continued at St Mary’s Church with a vigil, and refreshments and hot cross buns were served at Hinckley United Reformed Church.
