Nurseryis a picture of health
A HINCKLEY nursery has been given glowing bill of health gaining three awards from the county council.
Leicestershire Healthy Tots is an early years health promotion programme designed to encourage pre-school settings to promote healthy lifestyles.
St Bernards Day Nursery, based on Clarendon Road, earned three accreditations for its work on healthy eating, emotional health and well being and physical activity.
Nursery Manager Michelle Sidwell said: “We are really thrilled with our award and I would like to thank the staff for their hard work and dedication collating all the information as well as demonstrating their knowledge and commitment on daily basis ensuring they prac- tise the core themes of Healthy Tots.
“This was reflected in the report: “the staff were experts in their respected fields”.”
Providing feedback on each of the three areas, a report from Health Tots said: ”We were very impressed with St Bernards commitment to the provision of a healthy nutritious diet.
“Children are encouraged to sample a variety of different foods that had a seasonal element.
“We also saw children cooking and engaging in the whole food preparation process.
“The allotment and growing of herbs was particularly pleasing to see.”
On emotional health and well being, the report said: “We felt that this aspect of healthy tots was a particular strength of this setting.
“There was clear evidence that children had opportunities to express their feelings, being able to use the quiet space and dens in each room.
“We also saw evidence of the setting showing strong, inclusivity adapting to other cultures.”
And on physical activity, inspectors found: “Staff supported children to be physically active providing a wide range of engaging activities.
“We loved the garden area with its variety of choice and options for children to play purposefully.
“It is a key strength that allows the children to explore a wide variety of activities outdoors.”
