Archbishop of Canterbury to visit college
THE Archbishop of Canterbury is to visit the Nuneaton campus of North Warwickshire and Hinckley College.
The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby will be attending the school as part of a four day trip to Coventry and Warwickshire.
The church leader will engage with and encourage youngsters in the town and discuss the transformative role of further education colleges within communities.
Students will be showing their skills to the top clergyman with a choir performance, a floristry techniques workshop and a hairdressing demonstration.
Media students will interview Rev Welby, with an afternoon tea then to be served courtesy of students from catering and hospitality.
Marion Plant, principal and chief executive of the college, will greet the party from Lambeth Palace.
She said: “The archbishop’s visit will provide an opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and to demonstrate their pride in the technical and professional skills that they are developing.
“Students will have a chance to tell their stories, to help promote his understanding of the ambitions and career objectives of young people.”
“The college will benefit from the honour of being chosen for this visit and being given a chance to show the enormous positive impact that further education has on the young people of Nuneaton and Hinckley.”
The archbishop will also meet civic leaders, refu- gees, farmers and business leaders during his trip.
Rev Welby was ordained at Coventry Cathedral in 1992 and served his curacy in Nuneaton and then as a rector in Southam.
He worked at the cathedral from 2002 to 2007 and often wears the Coventry Cross of Nails.
The visit is taking place on May 4, with the tour culminating in the Centenary Festival of Coventry Diocese at the cathedral on May 5.
