Stamper back on track

-

REIGNING Pirelli National Superstock 600 rider Dan Stamper had a frustrating start to his 2018 campaign at Donington Park over the bank holiday weekend.

Stamper, 23, from Barwell, has progressed this season into the British Supersport championship following his success on the track last season.

Competing with some of the best motorcycle racers from across the world, Dan’s first weekend in the class was plagued by unfortunate mechanical issues and unpredictable weather.

Suffering an electrical prob- lem in qualifying, Dan had to start his first race on Sunday from 20th position.

In tricky conditions, neither wet or dry, he managed to work his way up to 14th position, posting a lap time that put him 12th on the grid for Monday’s race.

Again, the weather played a key role in Monday’s race, with a drying track which made tyre selection difficult.

Opting for full wet tyres, Dan struggled to keep up the pace, and eventually finished the race in 16th.

After the weekend, Dan said: “It has been a difficult weekend for me.

“The electrical problem in qualifying knocked my confidence a bit, and I just didn’t adjust well to the changing conditions.

“I have still learnt a lot this weekend – my bike is going to be competitive, and I know I can run at the front again this season.

“I’m looking forward to Brands Hatch next weekend to show what I am capable of”.

Dan and his Barwell based team, Allied Motorsport, are heading to Brands Hatch in Kent on April 13 for round 2 of the British Superbikes.
