Burbage Common Open Day this weekend

A FUN-PACKED day for the whole family will be in store when Burbage Common holds its ever-popular annual open day this weekend.

The 24th open day will be held on Sunday May 13 and will see the area around the visitor centre, based at the Leicester Road entrance, transforme­d.

Visitors the common can expect a marquee, with plenty of stalls nestled inside including crafts, charity stalls and local and national environmen­tal charities.

The event, which is organised by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, makes the most of the natural environmen­t with workshops, demonstrat­ions, Morris dancers, maypole danc- ing, crafts, outdoor activities and animals.

Among the attraction­s will be a dog show with various classes including: best puppy (under six months), best veteran (over seven years), most handsome dog, prettiest bitch, best small dog, best large dog and dog with the waggiest tail.

Pond dipping and den build- ing will be among the other activities that will be taking place throughout the day, as well as displays of maypole dancing and cheerleadi­ng.

There will also be demonstrat­ions of traditiona­l countrysid­e crafts including wood turning, while Hinckley Archaeolog­ical Society will be on-hand to help identify any unusual finds such as fossils, broken pottery, small pieces of metal or coins.

There will also be a farmers’ market area and many other food and refreshmen­ts stalls.

Admission to the event, which runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm, is free, but there may be a small charge for some of the activities and workshops held.
