Canal close season will soon be coming to an end

ONCE again the traditiona­l fishing Close Season is half way through and before we know it, the “Glorious 16th June” will arrive and old rivalries will once more be enjoyed by local match and pleasure anglers on the Ashby canal.

Those that observe the Close Season will need to check nets for additional holes and the rest of their tackle to ensure all is in order AND please ensure rod licences have been renewed, as bailiffs will check.

Measham AC will hold their AGM, 7.30pm at the Globe Inn, Snarestone on 15th May 2018 where all Members are welcome.

Club waters remain the same as do ticket prices and club books will be available from the end of May at Redfins Tackle in Measham and the competitio­n organiser Andy Smith on match days. The ever popular Wednesday Evening League Open Series will commence on 20th June, format will be the same as in previous years.

Members please note that unless you have booked in and paid the £5 fee by 1st November for the Fur & Feather Competitio­n, you will not receive a prize.

Members should also note that there is a Work Party scheduled at the Jubilee Pool on Saturday 26th May from 9am onwards.

Shackersto­ne AC held their AGM on 10th April and have appointed a new match secretary in Geoff Taylor after Jock Nicholson, the long serving previous match secretary announced his retirement from the post.

Club waters remain as before as do Membership prices and club books will be available from the end of May from The Rising Sun, the Bailiff on the Bank and Geoff Taylor the match secretary at local competitio­ns.

The £50 Entry Fee and Team name for the Annual Teams of four Competitio­n which will be held on 17th June, must be received by Sunday 3rd June 2018 and no later - for details please contact John Gamble on 01455/445335 or Andy Smith on 01530/263170.

The poplar Rising Sun sponsored Members Tuesday Evening League commences on 19th June and once again the Club Members Winter League Series later in the year will be sponsored by Onstylelif­ting from Nuneaton and the Club wishes to thank both sponsors.

The Pete Hogg Memorial Saturday Series of matches will take place as usual from mid August till October, the dates of which will be announced later in the year.

Both Clubs sincerely hope that their seasons will be productive, with fish willing to feed and camaraderi­e and banter prevails as usual - tight lines.
