Community charity choir concert in town on Saturday
A TRIO of community choirs are coming together to perform in Hinckley’s Argents Mead to raise money for three charities.
The singers will be in action in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Babywatching and Alzheimer’s Society, with some of the singers having a personal connection to the good causes.
One of the singers is Becca Bailey, a mother of two from Hinckley, who has a rare genetic condition called Retinoblastoma that causes tumours to develop behind the eyes.
Becca carries the rare genetic condition that causes tumours to devel- op behind the eyes. This usually occurs before the age of five.
She was diagnosed at the age of two and subsequently lost an eye. Her children can be carriers, develop the condition or be free entirely.
Her second child, Jacob, developed his first tumour at six weeks old.
She said: “Birmingham Children’s hospital have been fantastic at looking after him and he is now one year old and has been free of any recurrences for his last three check ups.”
Another of the singers is Lynda Gibbs, whose mum died last year having lived with Alzheimer’s disease.
She has been raising money and awareness of the illness since her mum’s death, including doing a 5k walk.
A spokesperson said: “Lynda has been a tireless campaigner for Hinckley Hospital and despite her own health difficulties continues to inspire others with her passion and generosity.”
The Lost Chord, On a Lighter Note and Essence community choirs will be taking part.
Cakes and refreshments will be available.
The event is on Saturday May 19 from 2pm to 4pm.
