BURGLARS made off with a haul of sunglasses from a town centre shop.

They smashed a glass door pane to access the Vision Express store on Castle Street.

They kicked in two doors inside the shop, filling a holdall with 181 pairs of shades from brands including Oakley, RayBan, Prada, Ted Baker and Superdry, and left via the front entrance.

Store manager Julie Holyland, who lives in Hinckley, was the first to hear of the break in as the alarm sounded.

She said: “The alarm activated and we got a notification.

“Our store director Sonny Kareer was able to dial in and saw them kicking the door in on the cameras.

“It hasn’t majorly affected business, it’s just the mess and the cleaning up.”

The store was able to quickly open after the incident and had a back stock of sunglasses to replenish the shelves.

The burglary happened on May 17 at 9.57pm.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “We received a report of a break in at a shop on Castle Street at 21.59pm on May 17.

“A quantity of glasses had been taken.”

The break in comes just a few weeks after jewellers Grace & Co, which is almost opposite Vision Express at 9C Castle Street, was raided overnight by a thief who stole £10,000 worth of items.

The jewellers had just reopened after a £50,000 makeover and is still waiting for a replacement for one of the Pandora display cases that was smashed during the raid.

The crime number for the Grace & Co burglary, which was on May 1 at 2.30am, is 18000 195970.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and released by police pending further enquiries.
