Antisemitism issue has been exaggerated by many people

-

IN contrast to Mr Vickers, I believe that the issue of Antisemitism has been exaggerated and exploited by some right-wing Jews to denigrate the Labour Party and / or to undermine Mr Corbyn.

It is sad that Mr Livingstone has felt obliged to resign from the Party for an inaccurate comment he made about Adolf Hitler’s views on Zionism (the movement launched in the 19th century by Jews and their friends (including George Eliot- viz her novel, Daniel Deronda) for the creation of a Jewish homeland in the Middle East). While Hitler dithered about this (he wanted rid of the Jews but feared the creation of a too powerful Jewish state which might oppose his own imperialist plans in the Mediterranean) thousands of Jews were encouraged by the German authorities and even the SS to board ships for Palestine - many intercepted by British gunboats and turned back.

Many German Jews actually supported the Nuremberg Laws of 1935 which forbade Jewish-German intermarriage as it suited their own racial purist ideology.

As usual, the truth is much more complicated than political slogans, insults and smears imply.

It could be argued that those who protest too much - maybe in order to discredit Livingstone, Corbyn et alia - are actually using the Holocaust - albeit perhaps unconsciously - to further their own political aims. But not Mr Vickers of course.
