Mums and families can help to shape maternity services

-

MUMS and their families are invited to be part of a new group which will help to shape the future of maternity services across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR).

The LLR Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP), launching on June 5, will provide the opportunity to meet other mums and discuss experience of services before, during and after birth with the people directly involved in running them.

The launch will be a drop-in event between 10am and 2pm on June 5 at the Orange Rooms (Voluntary Action Leicester), 9 Newarke Street, Leicester, LE1 5SN.

People who are looking to improve maternity services across the area will be available for a chat.

Refreshments and snacks will be available, as well as advice and support from local parenting organisations.

Dr Avi Prasad, GP and clinical lead for maternity services at Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland there is a new plan in place to transform and improve maternity and neonatal services.

“NHS organisations and local authorities are working together to put this plan into action and we want to share our vision with the public, patients, carers and other organisations.

“Our plan has been drawn up in line with the recent national NHS guidance, Better Births, which has been developed so that maternity services become safer, more personalised and more family friendly.

“We want to see every woman being able to make decisions about her care, and for each woman and her baby to have support that is centred around their individual needs and circumstances.

“It’s really important to us to involve members of the public in shaping our services, so that they are the best they can possibly be. We would like to hear from current mums and dads, women who have used local maternity and neonatal services already or anyone else who is interested in sharing their views on our plans.

“We want to make it easy for parents across the area to share their views.

“If you cannot attend our launch event or come to future meetings, please do get in touch with us, because there are different ways in which you can get involved.”

If you are planning to attend the event on June 5 please contact the Better Births team by email tom.pitchers@leicestercityccg.nhs.uk or by telephone 0116 295 4191.
