Lady Gretton is set to step down
THE Lord-Lieutenant is the Queen’s representative in the county.
The current imcumbent is Jennifer, Lady Gretton DCVO JP. Deputy Lieutenants and a Vice Lord Lieutenant assist.

THE Queen has announced a new Lord Lieutenant for Leicestershire.
Michael Kapur will succeed Jennifer, Lady Gretton when she retires on June 14.
Mr Kapur, currently a Deputy Lieutenant, will become the Queen’s representative in Leicestershire, fulfilling a range of civic and ceremonial duties.
Mr Kapur is 55 and lives in Oadby with his wife, Rita. They have four children.
He grew up in Derby and graduated from Leicester Polytechnic before becoming a chartered accountant.
He co-founded Signum Corporate Communications and has served as deputy chairman of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
Mr Kapur is chairman of the National Space Centre and Leicester main duties are to:
Arrange visits of members of the royal family and escort royal visitors
Present medals and awards on behalf of Her Majesty
Participate in civic, voluntary and social activity
Liaise with units of the Navy, Marines, Army, RAF and cadets.
City Football Club Trust.
He is also deputy chairman and pro-chancellor of De Montfort University, alongside other regional and national trustee roles in the education and community sectors.

“Leicestershire has a wonderful, diverse community and a rich heritage. We are home to three worldclass universities, innovative entrepreneurs and brilliant professional sports.
“I am very proud of Leicestershire and will do all I can to represent us to the best of my ability.
“Lady Gretton has made such a huge contribution to life in Leicestershire and is loved by everyone.
“She’ll be a very tough act to fol- low but she leaves me a strong platform to build upon.”
Lady Gretton said: “I am delighted that Mike Kapur is to be the next Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire.
“He has been a very active participant in the business and civic life of our city and county and I’m sure he will use all his local knowledge to represent Her Majesty well.”
John Sinnott, chief executive of Leicestershire County Council, will continue as clerk to the lieutenancy.
