Unsung hero Denise to attend run and fayre
THE 7th annual Churches Together in Sapcote and Sharnford Charity Fun Run will take place on Saturday (June 2).
This year’s run will be held as part of the Sapcote Community Library’s Summer Fayre 2018.
Registration for the Run/Walk will commence at 9:30 a.m. outside All Saints’ Church Hall, Sapcote, LE9 4FG, and the start will be at 10:00 a.m.
The entry fee is £5 and all proceeds will go to the three supported charities, Tear Fund, Cancer Research UK and Parkinson’s UK.
Last year the group raised £762 from the run.
The event is open to all ages however those under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
A spokesman for Churches Together said: “The run (or walk) will again be started to the famous sound of Leicester City Football Club’s Paul Hing playing the Post Horn Galop; the run gets under way when he hits the high note at the end.
“Our participants always enjoy the country route which uses the bridle way between Sapcote and Sharnford (there and back) and avoids main roads.
“The run is a relatively short 4.5km (2.8miles) and will be clearly marked with signs.
“Plus there will be marshals cheering you along the way. The event is not a race – entrants can go at their own pace.
“Some people even their dogs.
“Everyone who completes the course will receive a medal, so why not come and join the fun.”
Tea, coffee or orange squash and toast will be provided for participants when they have finished.
The spokesman added: “This year, Hinckley’s very own winner of the “BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017 Unsung Hero bring award” – Denise Larrad - will be joining us on the run and she will also be officially opening the Summer Fayre at 11:30 a.m.”
The Summer Fayre will be held on the green outside the Sapcote Community Library, Church Street, Sapcote, LE9 4FG, starting at 10:00 a.m and finishing at 3:00 p.m.
The official opening will be at 11:30 a.m.
Proceeds from the Fayre will go to local community groups or nominated charities.
The Fayre will include many exciting stalls hosted by local community groups.
Stalls will include items to purchase such as pre-loved jewellery, books, plants, artwork and cakes etc.
Interesting informative displays will be on show from e.g. the Heritage society and Blaby District Council Recycling Group.
There will be refreshments on sale.
Children’s activities will include a bouncy face-painting.
All of this will be accompanied by the sound of the Wigston Enterprise Brass Band and other musical entertainment.
