AN Olympic medalist was on hand to applaud sporting stars from Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre at the school’s annual sports awards.

Leicestershire-born Dan Greaves spoke as over 100 pupils enjoyed a meal, disco, photo booth and the awards ceremony while 80 parents also attended a pre-drinks event before the awards.

Dan won gold in the F44/46 discuss throw at the Athens Paralympics in 2004 along with silver in 2000 and 2012 and bronze in 2008 and 2016.

He spoke as prizes were handed out to the school’s sporting stars in Rugby, football, basketball and athletics.

A forward note to parents and pupils in the awards programme said: “Sport at HAJC6 embodies many aspects of school life that we are proud of.

“As a department we develop further the Academy’s core values; Trust, Cooperation, Fairness, Honesty, Respect and Equality.

“The sporting success of the Academy is due to the hard work, commitment and dedication of both students and staff.

“This year we were named Hinckley & Bosworth School of the Year for Sport, we had the largest volume of teams present at the School Games of any school in Leicestershire and we are now the best performing Sports School in Leicestershire and beyond.

“Significantly students have played 70 competitive Netball games against other schools this year across all ages and 63 Rugby matches.

“Congratulations not only to the award winners but to all students who have taken part in Sport at HAJC6.”
