Burbage seal a historic quadruple

-

FOLLOWING their win on Saturday in the Les James Challenge Cup Burbage travelled to Boldmere St Michael’s to take on Feckenham in their third and final cup final of the season on Tuesday (May 22) writes James Mawby.

Burbage had already secured the aforementioned Les James Challenge Cup, the League championship and the Leicestershire Senior Cup and were going in search of an unprecedented quadruple.

NKF had the utmost respect for their opponents who are the only team to inflict a league defeat on them in the past two seasons.

However there was an air of confidence around the Bur- bage squad and why shouldn’t there be, they had already completed back to back trebles.

Burbage started the game well and at times played some lovely football and the opening goal of the game summed this up, some quick play around the 18 yard box saw Ryan Cheshire in on goal and he didn’t disappoint finishing well past the oncoming Keeper.

Burbage dominated the match but Feckenham were causing havoc with a long throw in to the box that on each occasion looked like it could lead to the equaliser.

It didn’t though and Burbage, as ever, defended exceptionally well.

With around 15 minutes to go Astill sent on Burt who was on hand to tap the ball past the keeper after he spilled a Tom Smith strike.

Feckenham finished the match with 10 men as one of their players saw red with a few minutes to play.

Burbage held on to their 2-0 scoreline and lifted the President’s Cup.

Winning four trophies in one season is a fantastic achievement and full credit must be given to all of the management team and the players.

NKF will now look forward to next season where they will take part in local derbies against Hinckley AFC and Leicester Road in The Midland Football League.
