Losing start for Barwell 2nds

-

BARWELL 2nd’s entertained City Cricketers for their first home game and also loss of the season.

Barwell lost the toss and were asked to bowl first.

The opening pair of George Rolfe and Ben Harding provided chances but no wickets were forthcoming and with the two opening batsmen looking set skipper James Dillon turned to the young Dec Higgins to try and find a breakthrough.

A superb catch on the boundary by Dec Allen off the bowling of Higgins provided the much needed wicket.

However the score kept creeping up, not curbed by another great piece of fielding by Allen to secure a run out. So it was down to Allen himself with ball in hand and Sam Fisher at the other end to secure the wickets, finishing with figures of 4-51 and 3-37 respectively, with Joe Stack picking up his first wicket of the season.

With all the wickets down this left Barwell chasing 294 to win. Allen and Pete Tillin went out to start chasing this mammoth total but when Tillin fell early things looked bleak.

However a well struck 50 from Allen and a very solid 61 not out from Fisher gave Barwell a glimmer of hope.

Unfortunately the rest of the line up struggled to contribute aside from Dillon (14), caught on the boundary trying to accelerate the run rate and Washington (12).

After the 45 overs Barwell ended on 165-7 handing them their first loss of the season.

Barwell 2nd’s will look to bounce back next week when the play Fatana away.
