A WOMAN was caught drink-driving twice in 48 hours – and threatened to kick a police officer in the groin as he tried to arrest her.

Leicester Magistrates’ Court heard Jacqueline Walkinshaw was slumped over her steering wheel when police spotted her in Hinckley just after midnight on May 13.

The vehicle was half on the kerb in Leicester Road, facing oncoming traffic.

As the police were finding a safe place to park their car so they could check on her, she drove off, only to be pulled over by the officers moments later and arrested.

When the officers asked her if she had consumed any alcohol, she said: “Yes, a load.”

She was breathalysed and found to be significantly over the drink-drive limit. She had 96 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35mcg.

Walkinshaw, who did not have a driving licence, was taken to the police station in Beaumont Leys in Leicester, charged and given an interim driving ban but 48 hours after her first arrest she was out drink-driving again.

On the second occasion, in the early hours of May 15, she was out drinking with a friend in Hinckley.

After being refused service at a pub because of their drunken demeanour, Walkinshaw and her friend went to buy alcohol from a petrol station.

As they set off from the petrol station, she was on the A47 approaching the Triumph factory junction when her phone rang.

As she looked down at the screen she drove straight on to the roundabout, knocking over a road sign.

Prosecutor Safina Desai told the court: “The police were called and discovered the vehicle.

“During her arrest she was noncompliant and made threats towards the police officers and told one: ‘I’ll kick you in the nuts’.”

She was found to be even further over the limit than on the previous occasion, with 99 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Walkinshaw (25), of Columbus Lane, Earl Shilton, pleaded guilty to two counts of drink-driving, two counts of driving without a licence and one count of using threatening behaviour.

Chris Black, representing Walkinshaw, said: “It seems her mum was diagnosed with cancer in April and she was overwhelmed.

“She was very drunk. She should never have been behind the wheel and she wishes to extend her apologies to the police officers.”

Walkinshaw was sentenced to 18 weeks in custody, suspended for 12 months. She will have to do 120 hours of unpaid work, 10 days of rehabilitation and pay £85 costs.

She was banned from driving for three years.
