Broadway show On Your Feet coming to the Curve next year

INTERNATIONAL singing star Gloria Estefan is bringing her Broadway musical to Leicester next year.

On Your Feet! will premiere at Curve before opening at London Coliseum in June 2019.

The superstar – whose hits include 1,2,3, Anything For You, Here We Are and Rhythm Is Gonna Get You – made a brief appearance at Curve to launch the UK production.

The show tells the story of her life, from her upbringing in Miami to a comeback following a bus crash which almost paralysed her, in 1990.

She said: “The UK has not only been an important source of beautiful music for our world, but has played an integral role in my own personal musical history. I am thrilled and excited beyond words.”

In a four-star review, New York Theatre Guide said the show is “a dazzling and delightful musical”.

The review adds: “This is a fantasy tale of a reality experience that pulls you in, gets your hips swinging and hauls you to your feet.”

The show is full of some of the singing superstar’s biggest hits and has been performed more than 750 times, earning a Tony Award nomination in the process.

Jamie Wilson, the show’s producer, said: “After watching On Your Feet! on Broadway three years ago, we immediately knew we wanted to bring the show to the UK. The story of how Emilio and Gloria brought their music from Cuba to Miami and the world is truly inspirational. We can’t wait for UK audiences to watch, enjoy and have fun.”

The show is written by Alexander Dinelaris, who wrote the film Birdman. It’s also directed by Jerry Mitchell, who was part of the team behind Kinky Boots in London.

Former X Factor star Anton Stephans, who performed in Scrooge at the theatre, opened the Curve preview night.

On Your Feet! is at Curve from June 3 to 8, 2019. Casting has yet to be announced.
