A LONG-term supporter of Stapleton Village Hall was named this year’s Stan Pitt Community Award winner.

Recognised by the parish council following public nominations, Diane Faulks, from Stapleton, was picked as this year’s worthy winner.

An active member of the village hall committee for many years, Mrs Faulks has held many roles and is currently secretary and tote officer.

As secretary she attends meetings of the committee and is known to deliver minutes just hours after the completion of meetings.

The Village Hall Tote raises significant and valuable funds towards the Hall’s running costs and as Tote Officer she is responsible for ensuring that the Tote is correctly run. She organises the collectors, accounts for the funds and pursues new members to join the Tote.

Other roles at the Village Hall include turning out in all weathers to open up the Hall and afterwards checking that the hall has been left ready for the next letting.

This may even include a spot of repainting and cleaning.

A spokesman for the Stan Pitt Community Awards said: “This year Diane organised the manufacture and fitting of the car park barrier and was successful in obtaining 100 per cent grant funding of the cost.

“Diane regularly attends the social evenings held at the Hall and is always a willing volunteer to help out on these evenings.

“In addition, Diane is a good neighbour to many people in the village. She is a sympathetic listener and goes out of her way to help others.

“A very worthy nominee and someone we as a com- munity can feel proud of and should be recognising and thanking.”

The Stan Pitt Community Award is an annual event to recognise and publicly thank those who have voluntarily improved the quality of life within the villages of Kirkby Mallory, Peckleton and Stapleton.

Each of the communities benefit from those who put so much effort in to local groups and activities and the Parish Council wants to acknowledge and support their contributions.

Anyone living or working in the Parish of Peckleton could make a nomination.

The award was presented at the Parish’s Annual Meeting on April 17.
