A QUESTION OF FAITH

-

With William Lyon from Living Rock Church

CAN you believe we are half way through the year already?

Time goes so quickly and we can all to easily find ourselves looking back and regretting not making the most of certain opportunities, relationships or moments in time.

My wife and I have really wanted to make sure that we won’t regrettably look back at moments missed this year.

Our wonderful son is nearly a whole one year old and we don’t want to miss a thing!

There are so many milestones during these first months of life, so we’ve been taking millions of pictures and videos and have been doing lots of fun things as a family to make sure that we can continue to remember what’s happened so far, rather than forget what went on.

There are so many things that I know I will always remember and just a couple I’d like to mention for the purpose of an article about the question of faith…

I will never forget the overwhelming feeling of unconditional love I felt, and will always feel, as a father for my son.

He has not done anything to earn my love, nor will he do anything that could make me love him any more or less, but simply because he is my son,

I love him completely and unconditionally.

As one with faith in God, I’m overwhelmed by the fact that this is how God my father feels about me as well!

I haven’t done anything to earn His love and nothing I do could make Him love me more or less.

I’m simply His son and He loves me completely and unconditionally.

I will also always remember having the realisation that my son needs me, whether he knows it or not.

He needs me to make sure he has basic things like food, water, good hygiene and somewhere to sleep; he needs me to support him so that he can learn how to walk around; he needs me to comfort him if he gets scared; and he needs me to be there for him.

I know that this is how it is with God my father. I need Him.

I don’t always appreciate how much I need Him, but I know that He is always there to make sure I have all I need and to support me and comfort me so that I can live life to the full as His son.

It’s amazing to know that God loves me unconditionally and that He is always there making sure I have all I need.

It was even greater, though, to realise my need for Him and to pursue faith and a relationship with Him - my father.

I pray that we will all understand our need for God and because of His amazing unconditional love for us, get to know Him more.
