Sea cadets sweep board in the pool at swim gala

LEICESTERS­HIRE District Sea Cadets swept the board at their recent swimming gala with every cadet who entered taking at least one gold medal.

Hinckley cadets put in an outstandin­g performanc­e with Leading Cadet Heather Smith, the Mayors Cadet, taking gold in the Individual Medley and silver in both the senior girls Backstroke and Butterfly.

Cdt. S. Bedder took gold in the Jun- ior Boys Butterfly and the Freestyle Relay - winning the Junior Boys the overall Area Trophy.

His brother, Junior Sea Cadet (10 to 12yrs) took gold in the mixed Freestyle relay, the JSC Freestylea­nd the JSC Backstroke.

Junior Sea Cadet Le Grice took Gold in the JSC Breastroke and the Individual Medley and Freestyle Medley.

Cdt. Wykes won her gold in the 12 to 15 yr Backstroke and then went on to take silver in the Freestyle.

Able Cadet Drew wiped out the competitio­n by a length to take gold in the 15 to 18 yrs Freestyle, he then followed this up with a silver in the Individual Medley and a Bronze in the Butterfly.

Last but by no means least from the Hinckley cadets was Cadet Mortiboys who took gold in the team Medley Relay and Silver in the 12 to 15yrs Individual Relay.

Cadets from Loughborou­gh and South Leicester units were also part of the team which competed against cadets from seven other districts in Eastern Area. The event was held at RAF Cranwell.
