HINCKLEY’S match fishing big catch specialist Max Higgott has done it again, weighing over 200lbs to win Sundays Makin’s Open match. Fished on Phase One, Max was disappoint­ed when the regulars told him that his peg, B9 on Lake Two, wasn’t normally very good, but he had plenty of room to his right and decided to concentrat­e on an all out margin attack.

Expecting to wait a couple of hours before a bite he was surprised to catch a double figure carp after just ten minutes! Fishing with bunches of dead maggots as bait Max caught steadily through out the day, finishing with a massive 236lb finishing over 50lb in front of the runner up.

Daniel Eaton scored a convincing win off peg 50 in Sundays Lychgate Fisheries Open. Pole fishing pellet along the far bank he caught fish through out the match to finish with 91lb 6ozs.Colin Chapman finished second, just !, after Steve Brindley put a small roach back rather than wet another keep net, Colin weighed 47lb 2oz with Steve weighing 47lb 1ozs for third place. Franco Vignal finished fourth with 41lb 6ozs.

Darren Milne’s good form at Higham Lane continue as he won the Wednesday evening Open to record his third win in recent weeks. Drawn on peg 21 Darren swapped between pole and leger tactics to finish with 49lb 11ozs. John Varley came second with a 37lb 9oz catch on pellet feeder from peg 17. Clive Oliver finished third with 34lb 11ozs.

After drawing the golden peg in Wednesday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open, Paul Bates took the honours in convincing style with a 77lb 6oz catch of carp, bream and tench. Paul pole fished bread punch on peg 52. Runner up Chris Duffy finished along way behind with a 36lb 7oz catch from peg 46. Robin Duffy came third with 25lb 12ozs.

Just 5ozs seperated the top two in Maynes Lakes midweek Open. Danny Ross got the verdict. Drawn on peg 42 on Lake Three, he pole fished pellet in the margins to land 34lb 10ozs while John Baughan on Pool One’s peg 24, pole fished bread punch along the island to catch 34lb 5ozs for second place and a Lake win.

Thursday’s Higham Lane Open was won by Chris Waite with a 63lb 9oz catch on pole fished pellet from peg 7. Dave Hurlston came second with 52lb while Mick Linnett finished third with 48lb 5ozs.

Saturday’s warm muggy weather unsettled the carp for Lychgate Fisheries Open match, and although there were plenty of fish moving about few feed. Steve Brindley needed just four good carp weighing almost 30lbs, plus some silver fish to win with 39lb 2ozs from peg 36.Wayne Deeming came second with 29lb 4ozs. Daniel Eaton hooked enough fish to have won several matches, but had to settle for third place after losing nineteen carp, to finish with a level 25lb.

Higham Lane Fishery have an Open matches every Wednesday evening, draw 5.30pm, and every Thursday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches every Saturday, draw 9.15am and on Sunday, with a later draw time of 12noon, fishing 1pm till 6pm.

Maynes Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.
