Town well beaten by high flying visitors

HINCKLEY Town hosted high flyers Newtown Linford on Saturday.

Where as most games where Hinckley have lost this season have been close this time they were well beaten losing by 103 runs and leaving them in a relegation position in the table.

On Saturday, Hinckley won the toss and chose to bowl.

Newtowns openers put on 54 at which point S Hopkins was caught off the bowling of Ravi Singh.

The score moved on to 89 when L Agnew was caught off the bowling of I Khan for 45.

This brought in big hitting Craig Chapman and, with his partner, added 75 for the third wicket.

With the score on 164 Chapman was given out for obstructio­n when he prevented wicket keeper Kelker taking a catch.

This left Newton on 164 for 3 after 39 overs. Tight bowling by Hinckley, particular­ly by newcomer left arm spinner I Khan managed to limit Newtown to a score of 203 for 6 after 45 overs.

Khan finished with 3 for 56 off 12 overs and captain Rag Sen performed well bowling 9 overs for 29 runs.

Although at 40 for 2 Hinckley’s position looked reasonable they had used up 18 overs.

40 for 2 then became 52 for 3 when Khan was caught off the bowling of spinner Burchall for 4.

But when captain Rag Sen went for 20, bowled by S Armson, it left Hinckley on 67 for 4 .

They lost wickets at regular intervals and they were all out for 100 after 38.4 overs.

Only Valand with 12 and Pathan not out 15 showed any resistance. Burchell finished with impressive figures of 5 for 17 in 8 overs.

Newtown took 25 points but Hinckley only gained three Next week Hinckley visit Oakham.
