Estate lagging behind in broadband coverage

-

RESIDENTS’ frustration with slow broadband speeds on a Hinckley estate was rasied at a meeting of Leicestershire County Council.

Cllr Michael Mullaney (Lib Dem, Hinckley De Montford) asked for support for better coverage.

He said: “Residents of The Greens, the Olympic Way, estate off Leicester Road in Hinckley have to put up with extremely poor levels of broadband coverage and would benefit enormously from superfast broadband being extended to their estate.

“Could any future plans to include broadband roll-out please make extending it to this estate a priority”.

Responding the leader of the County Council Nick Rushton said the County Council’s broadband team would support a residents group representing residents of The Greens in their attempt to negotiate a broadband upgrade paid for by the site developer.

Michael Mullaney added “Many people who live on The Greens work from home, so extending superfast broadband to the estate would be helping local businesses in addition to residents.

“I hope the issue can be resolved with the developer. If not then when the next round of broadband roll-out, phase 3 of the Superfast Leicestershire programme is rolled out I hope the county will target The Greens as a place in desperate need for superfast broadband.”
