POLICE have stepped up patrols to deal with drinkers and drugtakers who congregate in the area around Leicester’s Clock Tower.

The warmer weather has led to an increase in rowdy behaviour, often fuelled by drink or drugs such as mamba, also known as spice, police said.

The synthetic cannabis causes users to go into a catatonic, zombie-like state.

Officers from Mansfield House police station, in the city centre, said the behaviour of the alcoholics and drug-users is causing “harassment, alarm and distress” for shoppers, workers and visitors.
