A day at the seaside is theme of big day

A DAY at the seaside was enjoyed by all as the crowds came out to enjoy Stoney Stanton Carnival at the weekend.

An organiser said: “We had a record-breaking 15 floats in the parade which included the WI as Bathing Beauties, Church Hall Playgroup taking donkey rides and The End Of The Pier Show complete with cancan dancers, trapeze artists and a strong man from St Michael’s Church. “

“The Cubs brought an Hawaiian vibe to the day with flower garlands and very bright shirts on display while the Beavers decorated their float as a giant ice cream van and the 1st Stoney Stanton Brownies enjoyed A Day At The Sea- side.

“We welcomed some newcomers to the parade in the shape of The Star Inn, Calor Gas, Rebecca Stokes Dance Academy and the Youth Club.

“The winner of the decorated floats this year was the Community Centre Playgroup with their Stanton Pier theme. Smiles Children’s Club came second with a beach party float The 1st Stoney Stanton Guides with the 2nd Stoney Stanton Brownies came third with Blackpool Pleasure Beach.”

The walking groups included the scouts as beach lifeguards, Bright Stars Childmindi­ng Services as Creatures from the Sea and Highfield House dressed as Punch and Judy. The winners of the walking groups was The Creative Children’s Group, all dressed up ready for the beach.

Following the parade the crowds descended on the War Memorial Playing Fields for an afternoon of fun and entertainm­ent.

Lutterwort­h Town Band kicked off the arena events followed by an exciting display from TKT Cheerleade­rs. Manorfield Voices School Choir performed a medley of pop songs ending with ‘This Is Me’ from the film The Greatest Showman.

The final total raised has not yet been confirmed. Proceeds from the day are distribute­d to local community groups.
