THE later draw time for Lychgate Fisheries Sunday Opens certainly suit Daniel Eaton as he recorded yet another win with the best catch made so far this year!

Drawn on peg 50, Daniel pole fished pellet along the far bank reeds to catch twenty carp for a 101lb 8oz winning catch. Runner Up Pete Jupp finished along way behind with a 49lb 4oz catch from peg 44.

In form Steve Brindley came third, weighing 47lb 6oz pushing Andy Findlay into fourth place with 36lb 12ozs.

Lutterwort­h & District travelled to Friezland Pools at Market Bosworth for their latest contest. Leading the way was Lorrance Dumpling with a 80lb 11oz catch of carp. Dick Makepeace came second with a 78lb 3oz catch. Martin Lomberg finished third with 76lb 8ozs with Dick Gardner finishing fourth with a 66lb 1oz catch.

Early league leader Dave Hurlston continued his good form, winning the latest Higham Lane Fishery Summer League contest. Drawn on peg 17, Dave pole fished pellet to claim top spot with a 73lb 10oz catch. Andy Findlay finished second with 67lb 9ozs, with Mick Linnett taking third place with 49lb 12ozs and Dennis Beacham fourth with a 41lb 10oz catch.

Saturday’s Open match at Lychgate Fisheries once again proved to be a frustratin­g affair, as the carp seemed to be feeding on fry rather than anglers baits. Yet again it was Steve Brindley who sorted it out quickest. Catching on pole fished pellet fished “shallow” Steve finished with a 41lb 12oz catch. Wayne Deeming came second with a 26lb 10oz catch while Ian Shirley finished third with 18lb 9ozs.

Wednesday evenings Higham Lane Open was won by Mark Ward who fished pole and paste from peg 17 for a 45lb 12oz top catch. Kevin Milne weighed 28lb 11oz for second place while Darren Milne weighed 22lb for third place.

There was a close finish to Lychgate’s Wednesday Open with just 5ozs splitting the top two! Lychgate legend Terry Brindley took the honours, with a mainly carp catch from peg 30, weighing 30lb 13ozs. Paul Bates worked hard to keep putting fish into his net, finishing second with around 12lbs of “Silver” fish and a couple of big carp for a 30lb 8oz catch.

Bruce Robinson weighed just four carp to take third place with 28lb 9ozs.

Brookfield’s Open at Stoke Golding was another close affair with just 12oz splitting the top three. Venue expert Ray Lewis took the honours with a 17lb 14oz catch. Danny Ross finished second with 17lb 9ozs while Glen Morris came third with a 17lb 2oz catch.

There was another big turn out for Maynes Lakes Wednesday Open, but with the carp basking in the sun, they proved difficult to catch. That didn’t bother Dave Cleaver who caught from the start. Pole fishing pellet to make a 37lb 7oz winning catch. Result; Lake One; Winner; Dave Cleaver, peg 23. Lake Two; Winner; Wayne Harris, peg 12, 14lb 12ozs. Lake Three: Winner Ian Stripp peg 45, 28lb 2ozs.

It was back to the old ways for Terry Sanderson, who won Thursday Higham Lane Open using pellet waggler tactics

from peg 11 to catch 63lb of carp. Martin Ireland pole fished pellet to weigh 57lb 9ozs for second place with Steady Eddie Sharrad and Clive Oliver joint third, both weighing 44lb.

Higham Lane Fishery have an Open match every Thursday, draw 9am. There will also be an Open match this Saturday (June 16th), draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches /Lychomania Qualifiers every Saturday, draw 9.am and Sunday’s draw 12 noon.

Brookfield have an Open match at Stoke Golding this Sunday, draw 9am.

Excitement will be building up for local Towpath trotter’s as fishing on the Ashby Canal begins again on Shackersto­ne & Measham water’s from June 16th ! It’s going to be a busy start. Measham have their Member’s Merrick Cup match this Saturday, draw 1.30pm at the Globe at Snarestone. Sunday see’s the 50th Annual Shackesrto­ne’s Teams of Four Championsh­ip, entries for this have now closed. Then on Tuesday Shackersto­ne’s Members Evening series begins, draw in the Rising Sun’s Car park at 5.30pm, followed by Measham’s popular Wednesday evening Open match series, draw 5.30pm at the Globe.
