Worthy causes set to benefit from society

TWO worthy causes are due to benefit from charitable donations made by Earl Shilton Building Society when votes are cast at its upcoming AGM.

Each year, the Society chooses two charities to benefit from its AGM donation scheme and invites its members to select which of the two they would like the Society to donate to.

For each vote that is cast, the Society donates 40p to the respective charity.

This year’s AGM is due to take place at Age UK’s Senior Citizens Centre in Earl Shilton on Wednesday July 11, and the two charities that have been chosen are Stroke Association and LOROS.

Having been the Society’s Charity of the Year for 2017/18, Stroke Association is the nation’s leading charity committed to overcoming stroke. It relies on support from the public to offer crucial services, campaign for improved stroke care and search for better treatments.

Louise Knight, Regional Fundraising Manager at Stroke Association, said: “Each year, we help tens of thousands of stroke survivors and their families through our range of services and free helpline, but we can only do this through the generosity of people like the members and staff at Earl Shilton Building Society.

“We’re incredibly grateful to them for continuing to support Stroke Association. The money raised will help more stroke survivors and their families to rebuild their lives.”

LOROS, or The Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering, is a local charity which works to enhance the quality of life of people who have been given a terminal diagnosis, when curative treatment is no longer an option. LOROS Hospice provides free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to end-of-life adult patients, their family and carers.

Magdalena Korytkowska, Partnership Development Lead at LOROS, said: “We are very excited to have been chosen as one of the charities to benefit from the scheme.

“Each year, we need to raise £5 million in order to provide our services free of charge to 2,500 patients and their family members from Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

“We wouldn’t be able to achieve that without the amazing support from the organisations and communities like Earl Shilton Building Society and its members. We are very proud to say that 91p from each pound goes towards patient care”.

Last year, Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland and Anthony Nolan were chosen to receive the donations.

Earl Shilton Building Society also provides support to good causes through its “In the community” fund.
